There is a simple fix that allows large format printing for the CP1700 under Windows Vista, unfortunately the fix is not posted on this internet. Thus, I post it here, so that other do not have to go through the hassle of trying to enable the Large Format Printing, which includes A3 and Tabloid, or 11×17, which is also called Tabloid.
The attached file is the gpd for the printer. Which works similarly for 32 and 64 bit versions of Vista (just change the directory accordingly for 64-bit).
Open a Administrator Command Window
Click the start button and type cmd and then hold CTRL + SHIFT and hit ENTER
(this opens a cmd windows as admin)
There are some Allow windows that pop up that you should agree to do for the fix to work.
Then in the window type:
net stop spooler (to stop the printer spooler)
cd %windir%\system32\spool\drivers\w32×86\3
ren HPW1B83L.gpd *.bak
copy THIS FILE to %windir%\system32\spool\drivers\w32×86\3
(this step is arduous in command, so you can use windows explorer to copy the file into the correct directory)
del HPW1B83L.bud (it will regenerate automatically)
net start spooler (to start the printer spooler again)
then restart and your Large Format Printing for CP1700 will be allowed under Windows Vista!

Hello.
It worked great. Thank you alot.
You are a good person. I had to deliver a paper and only now discovered that I couldn’t print in A3. I had already sent a e-mail to a guy in HP that said he would send the solution and was getting worried because he was taking long.
I don’t know what is the problem on making this public.
Thank you oonce again.
Hi tiagoaleks,
Thanks for working through the fix, amazing stuff hey, I would assume it is a scope/support issue, that they want to keep it internalized, as to avoid publicizing the lack of support.
Glad it worked, I will add you to the success list!
Tell others… feel free to post this other places also!

It is a bit tacky to post this as if it were your own work without proper attribution….

I located your site via a response from Renee Mason on the HP forum. She had the same direction, minus the link to the file.
Followed your directions and the tabloid paper is not listed in the paper list.
Have not tested with the printer, see no reason it will not work
Thanks
I didn’t understand what was it i was supposed to copy and to where?
you wrote copy THIS FILE to %windir%\system32\spool\drivers\w32×86\3
(this step is arduous in command, so you can use windows explorer to copy the file into the correct directory)
could you explain what you ment?
thank you
yael
THIS FILE is actually a link to a file to download, and then you copy it to C:/windows/system32/spool/drivers/w32×86/3
Ok, I just have to say YOU ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you so much for sharing this. I would have never been able to do it on my own!
I am very happy to find this solution.
Unfortunately on HP suppport forum nobody provide clear answer and link to file. Thank you very much!
it works just great under VISTA 64 bit (just change path)!!
many thanks!!
A better version of the patch (more detailed instructions and fixes for margins issues) is available on HP's site here: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/psg/board/message?board.id=Software&thread.id=43
